DIY Halloween Blocks Using 2x4 Scrap Wood

Today’s Project

See how to turn scrap 2×4 wood pieces into fun holiday Halloween decor as a family-friendly craft.

Cutting Safety

You should avoid shaving off small pieces that put your hands too close to the saw blade, stand on the correct side of the cut to avoid flying debris, keep others away from the saw, wear protective gear like ear and eye protection, and only cut if you feel comfortable.

Boo Ghost

Use a can to mark rounded corners and cut them at the miter saw.

Save the cutoffs to use for cat ears later.

Use carbon paper and a scribe or ball point pen to trace the ghost face onto the wood.

Paint the white parts first.

After it dries, use a Sharpie to outline the eyes and mouth, then paint them black.

Black Cat

Attach the Boo Ghost cutoff corners to the top to serve at the cat’s ears.

Use a good wood glue, like Titebond 3.

Then put a piece of scrap wood on the top and clamp it overnight.

Use carbon paper and a scribe or ball point pen to trace the cat eyes onto the wood.

Paint the yellow parts of the eyes first.

After they dry, use a Sharpie to outline the eyes.

Then paint the whole thing black.

Frankenstein

I cut an angle of 22.5 degrees for Frankenstein’s head.

Use carbon paper and a scribe or ball point pen to trace his hairline onto the wood.

Then move down a bit and trace the rest of his face.

Paint the eyes and mouth white first.

After they dry, use a Sharpie to outline the eyes, draw the eyeballs, then outline the mouth and draw a few teeth.

Paint his face green and his hair area black.

Pumpkin

Cut a piece of 1×2, or other scrap, to about 2” for the stem.

Use carbon paper and a scribe or ball point pen to trace the witch hat eyes onto the wood.

Them move the template further down and trace the bat mouth.

Paint everything orange except the eyes and mouth.
